Hello Glenside Families!

My name is Laura Zablocki, and I am the  (team 7-1) 7th grade social studies teacher at Glenside. It is my second year teaching at Glenside Middle School, and I am so happy to continue to be a part of the Glenside community. Teaching is my passion, and I look forward to getting to know my new 7th grade students and their families this school year!

It is my fifth year teaching overall, and it is my third year teaching 7th grade social studies. I have a BA in Elementary Education from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago, a Middle School teaching endorsement from Northeastern Illinois University, and an ESL teaching endorsement from Northeastern Illinois University. On a personal note, I am also married to a middle school science teacher, and we have two children that are two and 4 years old that keep us very busy! I love to travel, cook, and enjoy spending time outdoors with my family and friends.

A little information about 7th grade social studies...For 7th grade social studies we will be covering US History from 1700-1877. I really enjoy teaching US History and really getting into the roots of how the United States formed with the students. The 7th graders always have such an interesting point of view on the different topics which always makes for great class discussions!

The topics we will be covering include:

*European Colonization of North America

*The Revolutionary ERa

*The Constitution of the United States and Illinois

*The Early Republic

*Westward Expansion in the United States

*The Civil War

*The Reconstruction Era post Civil War

The curriculum we will be using is Savvas Realize. Click the link below to access the website for Savvas Realize. I look forward to diving into these topics with the students this year and hearing their questions and opinions displayed through structured discussions, projects, and compositions.

Please contact me should you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to the upcoming school year!
