Our main form of communication from Glen Hill is through email. We understand that sometimes the emails are not getting into inboxes. While we know different email companies (iCloud, Gmail, Outlook, etc) have different strategies to help with this problem, here is one fix we can suggest for anyone.

As the weather gets warmer, we will be going outside for recess as much as possible, weather permitting. Please make sure your student has extra clothes at school in case they get their clothes dirty while outside. The warmer weather means it may be muddier than usual. We utilize the field, the park district park, and Glen Hill's park.

If we hold indoor recess, our students have opportunities to play games, draw and color while inside classrooms during recess time.

The 5 Essentials survey is now open for families to complete online. We invite all families to complete the survey. Glen Hill uses this information to help us develop our School Improvement Plans, as well as look into other ways we can work with our families to ensure the success of every child at Glen Hill.

During February, our classrooms have continued to develop social-emotional awareness and skills. Our kindergarten, 3rd, and 4th grades have been focusing on empathy and kindness through reading books and practicing ways to be kind to others. In 1st and 2nd grades, their lessons have continued to focus on developing a growth mindset - looking at new situations with an “I can do it” attitude!

Hello Parents of Glen Hill!

 

This is the time of year when students and parents alike get sick often. Germs thrive in this weather; they like to hop from person to person when it is cold, making our days full of tissues and sneezes. However, these steps can make spreading germs (and, as a result, not getting sick!) less likely.

 

• Keep kids home if they are not feeling well. Please report to the front office what symptoms they have/what illness they were diagnosed with from a doctor (covid, flu, norovirus, etc).

  • Use the graphic attached below a reminder on when to keep students home. If you need to medicate your child in order for them to be well enough to go to school, they should not be going to school! If you’re not healthy, you’re not learning.

• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, them throw the tissue in the trash

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

• Wash your hands for AT LEAST 20 seconds, and encourage your kids to do the same!

Hand washing is the number one way to help prevent getting sick. We remind students to wash hands or use hand sanitizer when entering the school, before lunch/recess, before eating, after coughing or sneezing, and any time they go to the bathroom.

An easy way to remember, if you sing the alphabet, you’ve hit that 20 second mark...you are all clean and good to go!

With that being said, encourage your children to wash their hands wherever they go. And if your student is ever feeling ill, make sure to keep them home to rest. We can all help to make a great habit while also making sure our kids stay happy and healthy!

It’s easy to get overwhelmed, frustrated and even angry when your child is having a meltdown. Join is to learn what happens to the body when feeling overwhelmed, under attack, hijacked and helpless and how you can help and support your child during these difficult times. Jennifer will review the body’s stress response system and help parents recognize sensory processing challenges. She’ll describe and discuss 3 stages of a meltdown, beginning with triggers, signs and symptoms that a meltdown may be starting, and share strategies parents can use to prevent and intervene at each stage.

The Wintertime Music Program was performed in the music room by all third graders and they did an amazing job! They were super excited to play “Jingle Bells” and “Eye of the Tiger” on their recorders, as well as sing so many songs about winter during our warmest winter weather! First and fourth graders will be preparing music to be performed for the Festival of Cultures on April 25th. Kindergarten and second graders are enjoying using the African Conga drums and small percussion instruments including rhythm sticks, maracas, egg shakers, and cowbells. All grade levels celebrated Black History Month by learning and performing the call-and-response song “Everybody Ought to Know,” and they were introduced to the music of Stevie Wonder.

Students may wear smart watches at school during the day. During the school day, when students are taking state assessments, such as IAR or ACCESS, they must be off and in their lockers. If at any time the watch becomes a disruption to your student or others, your student's teacher will contact you about next steps.

We have a bin located outside of the office for materials that have been found throughout the school. If your student is missing an item such as a sweatshirt, mittens, or a lunchbox, please have them check this bin.

If jewelry, glasses or other personal items are ever found, those are kept in the office for safe keeping.

Safety is our number one priority at Glen Hill. For this reason, we need to limit the amount of people that are in our vestibule at one time. When coming to the school, please ring the bell and wait for one of our office staff members to let you into the building. If you are in the building, please do not open the door for visitors. Following this protocol will help to ensure the safety of everyone visiting the building.

The Glenbard Parent Series engages top experts, parents and school staff to become proactive and informed in pursuit of the mutual goal to strengthen our communities. Events will be held virtually unless noted. Programs are free and open to the public. Click on the link below for upcoming events.

When we have inclement weather, we do not want to send students outside to wait for their rides home. We will hold students in the building and call them out to the cars once a family arrives. If there is enough time, we will send out an email blast notifying families of the dismissal process as it occurs.

For walkers, please pick up your student at the back of the new gym. We will dismiss all walkers out the back door (Door 12)

Car riders will exit Door 13. Please do not stand close to Door 13, since that slows down our ability to safely get students from the building.
